Dress for the class is casual civilian wear. Slacks, shirts, jeans, blouses are appropriate. Uniforms, coats and ties, etc. are not necessary.

The course fee is payable by purchase order (SF 182, etc.), cash, check, VISA and MasterCard, including corporate and government IMPAC/GPC and travel cards.  The fee does not have to be pre-paid.  Payments will be accepted at the class or invoiced afterward. Complimentary services will include breaks, a reception/mixer, and a luncheon.

Lodging is available at the Crowne Plaza New Orleans French Quarter hotel, 739 Canal Street (at Bourbon St.) at the 2009 Federal per diem rate of $133 (FY 2010 federal per diem rate).  Reservations can be made after July 15, 2009, by calling The Crowne Plaza New Orleans French Quarter Hotel 1-888-696-4806 and indicating that you are making a reservation under group name "JMAR" for April 12-16. Lodging reservations should be made as soon as possible but no later than March 12, 2010, which is the date our block of rooms will be released. You can still register for the class up until its start date, but after March 10 rooms will no longer be available at the course rate. Should that happen, first ask for a reservation at the Government rate and if the hotel still indicates rooms aren't available, you can go to the hotel website (click on the 'Hotel info' link above) and try to make a reservation at the Government rate.

A complimentary ice breaker will be held April 12 from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza for all class participants. Dress is casual. A complimentary lunch will also be served on Wednesday, April 14.

The Crown Plaza Astor Hotel
Located at the corner of Canal and Bourbon Streets in the French Quarter, the Crowne Plaza is a 707-room hotel featuring Dick Brennan's Bourbon House restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner with 24-hour room service available.  The hotel offers high-speed and wireless interest access at $9.95 per day in most guest rooms along with a fitness center, rooftop pool and gardens, the Bourbon House Lounge, business center, and concierge service with a tours desk.

Valet Parking is available at $31.95 per day (2009 rate).  Taxi fare from Louis Armstrong International Airport (12 miles from hotel) is approximately $30 one way (about 20 minutes).
Optional shuttle service is also available for about $24 one way.

Due to the cost of parking at the hotel, we strongly recommend that those attending this class who will fly into New Orleans use public transportation from and to the airport.  In additional to the cost of parking, driving in any any central downtown area is difficult and the streets in the French Quarter are narrow and all one-way.  With the French Quarter, restaurants, other attractions, and the trolley line nearby, walking is the best way to move around the city.

Participants flying in for the class should arrange their travel to Louis Armstrong International Airport (MSY) to arrive on or before April 11.  The airport features a full range of rental car agencies.

What's to do and where to eat in New Orleans?  The Crowne Plaza New Orleans French Quarter hotel is located at the head of the French Quarter on the corner of Bourbon Street and Canal Street. In addition to the French Quarter, attractions located one mile or less from the hotel include Harrah's Casino, Aquarium of the Americas, Jackson Square, the Riverwalk Shopping Center and boat tours, and the New Orleans Children's Museum.  The New Orleans street car line stops directly in front of the Crowne Plaza also.
Fare is $1.25.  Restaurants abound in the French Quarter with the dominant cuisine being Creole.  There are too many places to eat to list them all, but they range in price and quality from $ to $$$$.  Within a five-minute walk of the Crowne Plaza you can find Dickie Brennan's Bourbon House Seafood & Oyster Bar ($$) (located in the hotel on the street level), the Red Fish Grill ($$), Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse ($$$), Acme Oyster House ($), Mr. B's Bistro ($$), Broussard's ($$$), Bacco ($$$), Arnaud's ($$), The Checkered Parrot ($), Galatorie's ($$), Fire of Brazil ($$), and others.
